My hands were tied regarding anything fancy, but I thought a basic drawing process for a pencil sketch would be manageable. Spacing: What is People like this book even if they don't draw, because they can see cities through the artists' eyes. I've started attending the wonderful "All the Young Nudes" life drawing nights at The City Cafe, in Edinburgh. I see art more as a communication tool, rather than meant to be put in a frame on the wall. Starting tomorrow, Spacing will showcase three excerpts from this book. Gabriel Campanario's book The Art of Urban Sketching presents a visually arresting, storytelling take on urban life driven by artists drawing their cities and sharing their visual dispatches. This one day workshop will introduce you to the basics of figure drawing and perspective, developing skills in observational drawing in public spaces, with a focus on quick gestural drawing. While I was in Louisiana, I received an ask through Tumblr requesting that I post more tutorials. And while most figure drawings were originally exercises and never intended for frames or to be put on display, interior designers and homeowners seem to be doing it anyway. I have rolls and rolls of figure drawing sketches too. The result: I truly wish people not only had the guts to display figure drawing-- which is not as risque as people seem to think-- but to display a beautiful drawing of someone who is not a thin young woman or classical looking young man. These “absolute and utter beginners” started with scribbling exercises, adding skills until they could sketch a small still life with confidence.
